LOUIS SIDOLI - ISLAND LIFE
This neon artwork channels the bold spirit of Grace Jones, blending her 1975 hit "I Need A Man" and her iconic "Island Life" compilation.
Drawing from the disco era, it features Grace dressed as a sailor, a nod to Marlene Dietrich and her legendary 1978 "Fame" album cover.
The backdrop includes a vintage collage, incorporating a map of Jamaica and a playful reference to Grace's status as a gay icon with a torn image from a 1950s gay magazine.
With the title of her debut track, "I Need A Man," at the base, the piece celebrates her gender-defying persona, reimagining traditional masculinity with neon pinks that highlight Grace’s unique blend of strength and femininity.
A myriad of materials are used to create this incredible artwork. Brushed aluminium with a high gloss finish is accompanied by traditional hand-blown glass neon tubing which sets off the piece perfectly.
